If Celtics Don’t Get Love, Rondo and Green Will Likely Be Traded

I guess it’s Kevin Love or blow it up.

Steve Bulpett, already rumor maker extraordinaire, was back on his game yesterday dropping more bombs in his latest article than Outkast.

So lets look at these bombs, shall we?

Kevin Love offer includes Kelly Olynyk: Every other trade that I have seen has Jared Sullinger being the main building block of the trade but I guess Bulpett has heard other rumblings.

“So far, according to a source, they have offered the Nos. 6 and 17 picks in this year’s draft, Kelly Olynyk and one of their own future No. 1 picks. They also own two more first-rounders from the Nets and one from the Clippers after this season, and the Celts are said to be certainly willing to discuss different combinations of their assets.”

Kevin Love wants to be moved by the draft: or else he’ll just play through his contract and become a free agent next year.  Which is interesting to not only hear but also for K Love to say because I doubt Flip is now going to willingly trade Love away.  He probably thinks that Love will be so happy with him as coach that he’ll stay around.  I’m betting not.

“What has become more clear over the past couple of days is that, despite talk that it might hold on to Love and take its chances that he’ll decide to stay, Minnesota almost certainly will have to deal him in the next week. One source told the Herald that Love and his agent, Jeff Schwartz, told the Timberwolves flatly that, if he is not traded sooner, he will opt out of his contract after the coming season and leave as an unrestricted free agent. It didn’t matter that Saunders was taking over the coaching reins; Love is leaving.”

If C’s don’t get Love, they’ll blow it up: Yes, you heard it right.  If the Celtics don’t get Love, the Celtics will look to completely restart and try to trade both Rondo and Green (who Bulpett says they already have a suitor for)

“If the Celtics cannot get Love, they are planning to continue with the longer and more methodical rebuilding process, a process that would likely see Rajon Rondo traded. (An NBA source said they would also have a taker for Jeff Green if they chose to move him.)”

Wow.  That’s a lot to digest but it kinda makes sense.  Celtics are in a similar boat as the T-Wolves, their star is becoming a free agent, and while he’s said all the right things and wants to stay in Boston, another shitty year of basketball will be tough for Rondo to swallow.  So if the Celtics can’t get Love and Rondo together, then blow up the team and start from scratch again.  I just kinda wish they had done this a year earlier so that I wont have to sit through another tanking season, but oh well.

If the C’s do move Rondo, my best guess is it’ll be the Sacramento deal that was rumored so long ago.  Kings get Rondo, Celtics get their 8th pick, Ben McLemore and the rights to restricted free agent Isaiah Thomas.  Works money wise and leaves the C’s with the 6th, 8th, 17th pick and a good core of young players.

But looking at Rondo deals is for another time.  For now, let’s just sit back and watch what happens.  It seems like no matter what, the Celtics will be a very different team next year.
